Cam’ron Speaks Out Following Awkward CNN Interview Where He Was Asked About Diddy: ‘F*** They Invite Me On CNN For?’

Update (May 21, 2024): Cam’Ron has more to say after his interview on CNN.

The New York native also shared his thoughts on his It Is What It Is podcast. Take a look:

Original Story: Cam’ron is speaking out after making headlines for an awkward interview on CNN when the conversation turned to Diddy.

The 48-year-old rapper and podcaster took to Instagram to share a clip from his now-viral interview with CNN’s Abby Phillip. In the clip, they discuss his thoughts on the newly released surveillance footage showing hip-hop mogul Diddy assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie.

Cam’ron added a caption to the post, stating,

‘F*** THEY INVITE ME ON CNN FOR?”

The night before, Cam’ron was booked on NewsNight with Abby Phillip, where he was asked to discuss some of the pressing news stories of the day, including the video of Diddy assaulting Cassie. The interview started relatively normal as Abby Phillip asked if Cam’ron recognized Diddy’s actions in the disturbing footage.

Cam’ron expressed,

“Everything in the video is egregious, I’m against. I don’t support all the charges that’s alleged against him, I don’t support any of that trafficking minors, domestic violence … I’m totally against it. So when I seen the video… yea, I was kind of upset with it. Being that I know him, he’s not necessarily a friend… yea I was upset when I seen it.”

The interview quickly derailed when Phillip asked if Cam’ron noticed any similar instances of anger from Diddy based on his past experiences with him.

Cam’ron responded reluctantly,

“What do you mean did I recognize him? I’ve seen him. What do you mean my experiences? I seen him and I thought it was disgusting. I didn’t do a zoom in to see if it was really him or nothing, but he admitted it was him… so yea, it was him.”

Later, when questioned about Diddy’s recent apology video following the release of the hotel surveillance footage, Cam’ron stated,

“The apology isn’t for me to decide. It’s for Cassie. What I think about it don’t matter, he didn’t do nothing to me. You need to ask Cassie if she accepts the apology. I told you how I feel, I said what I said.”

Abby Phillip then played a clip from Cam’ron and Mase’s podcast ‘It Is What It Is,’ where they discussed why Mase chose to introduce Cam’ron to Biggie Smalls instead of individuals affiliated with Bad Boy Entertainment, Diddy’s label. Phillip then asked Cam’ron to elaborate on the clip and questioned whether there was any industry knowledge regarding Diddy’s treatment of his artists.

In an awkward moment, Cam’ron is then seen drinking his supplement shot Pink Horsepower, before saying,

“Sorry, I’m gon’ get some cheeks after this ‘Horsepower’ drink.”

He then proceeded to plug his podcast.

Abby prefaced her next question by delving into the broader context of the music industry, suggesting that Diddy’s actions may be shielded by a network of protectors. She questioned whether Cam’ron believed this assertion to be true.

He responded,

“Who the talent agent for this joint? You think I be sitting around watching what Diddy do? I didn’t know this was a Diddy joint y’all were inviting me to. Yo, who booked me for this joint?”

After the interview, social media was abuzz with various thoughts and opinions. Some expressed disappointment in Cam’ron’s behavior, while others criticized CNN for booking him to speak on the Diddy news.

One X user commented,

“Cam’ron coming on CNN and being disrespectful to Abby Phillip while she’s asking him about Diddy’s misogyny pretty much sums up the state of Black women & sexism in hip-hop.”

Another X user wrote,

“Who tf thought it was a good idea to put Cam’ron on CNN?!? That’s wtf y’all get!”
