O.J. Simpson’s Estate Hit w/ $500,000 Tax Lien, His Lawyer Says It Could Impact Settlement He Owes Nicole Brown Simpson & Ron Goldman’s Families

It’s been just over a month since O.J. Simpson died of pancreatic cancer, and his estate is now facing a six-figure tax bill that could delay it from making good on a wrongful death lawsuit settlement he owes Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s families.

O.J. Simpson’s former attorney and current executor of his estate, Malcolm LaVergne, told TMZ Thursday (May 30) he had plans to talk about the hefty settlement, however now, O.J.Simpson’s new tax debt could interfere. Though O.J. was infamously acquitted for Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s deaths in 1995, two years later he was found liable for their deaths in a Santa Monica civil court and settled for just over $33 million.

LaVergne revealed that O.J.’s estate has just been hit with a $572,402.69 tax bill from the state of California. At the same time, interest has accrued on his multi-million dollar settlement with Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s loved ones, spiking up the money owed to about $100 million.

LaVergne noted that he recently sat down with Ron Goldman’s family in Las Vegas. Goldman’s mother Sharon Rufo, was present and auctioned her rights to the settlement. During the sit-down, they discussed O.J.’s financial status from tax returns to bank statements and his 401K, which could all go toward the settlement. Other items like O.J.’s Heisman trophy, golf clubs, SUV, paintings, and grand piano could also be liquidated and benefit his estate. LaVergne added that Nicole Brown Simpson’s estate opted out of attending the meeting, although they were invited.

Meanwhile, LaVergne is trying to figure out just how much O.J.’s estate is worth, and the tax lien adds a new layer to the matter. He claimed he was “broadsided” by the amount and may go to court to handle the ordeal before”it wipes out any idea I had in my head to pay Goldman something,” a gesture he said “would be nice.”

He plans to challenge the lien, and put it in the hands of the court to decide how much can be given to Ron Goldman’s family.
