Update: Ice Spice Says ‘Y2K’ Album Name Was Placed On Trashcan For Cover Art ‘On Purpose’ Following Criticism
Update: (June 6, 2024): Ice Spice wants the girls to know she’s more calculated than they might think.
Yesterday (June 5) the 24-year-old rapper announced her debut album, titled Y2K, will be released on July 26. She also revealed the stops for her first headlining tour. Unfortunately for the “Deli” artist, the exciting moment was met with somewhat harsh reactions as many questioned why she would place her album’s name directly on a trashcan for the cover art.
Ice Spice, however, revealed this morning (June 6) that the placement of her album’s name was done “on purpose.” In a post shared to X, she wrote,
“David LaChapelle is #Y2K! soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f*cks wit a real b*tch thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”
Original Story: (June 5, 2024): 2024 is the year for taking your talents on the road!
Earlier today (June 5) Ice Spice revealed that she’s the next rapper who will be going on tour this year. The 24-year-old, real name Isis Gaston, also announced that her debut studio album is dropping this summer! Speaking on the album, titled Y2K, Ice Spice shared with her millions of internet followers that the project is scheduled to be released on July 26, but fans can pre-save the record now.
The announcement has received mixed reactions so far. While some fans deemed the forthcoming body of work the “album of the summer,” others slammed the project, with one person writing in Ice Spice’s comment section “We dont wanna hear it lil bro.”
The mixed reactions spilled over to the post revealing the tour, which will kick off on July 4 in Roskilde, Denmark, and end on August 31 in Miami Beach, Florida. While the Instagram post did have fans in the comment section excited to see their fav in person, some remarks questioned whether Ice Spice is ready to go on tour at this stage of her career.
Noting the tour will start before her album is released, one person wrote,
“how you going on tour and you ain’t drop yo album yet”
Another person said,
“dis finna flop chile”
Despite being somewhat of a newer artist, Ice Spice has already achieved a great level of stardom since 2022 when her song Munch (Feelin’ U) went viral on TikTok. In addition to scoring collabs with big-name celebs like Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice has won several awards and even earned four Grammy nominations.
