Amy Robach ‘Saved’ Boyfriend T.J. Holmes’ Life During Battle w/ Depression
Television personality T.J. Holmes is opening up about his struggles with mental health.
In a new episode of T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach’s podcast “Amy & T.J.,” the former GMA3 broadcast journalists discussed how morning television often came at a price for their mental health. During the show, T.J. Holmes praised his co-worker-turned-lover for “saving” him as he was battling depression.

Reportedly, Holmes’ mental health began to deteriorate following him joining the news, health and lifestyle program with Amy Robach in 2020. While the former CNN anchor said that landing the position was a milestone in his career, he admitted that the time was “probably the darkest days” of his life. After purportedly getting diagnosed with “moderately severe depression” back in 2015, Holmes recalled,
“Thoughts of suicide, abuse of alcohol. I didn’t realize how bad off I was.”

While it’s reported that Holmes was married to his estranged wife Marilee Fiebig during his health struggle, it apparently had gotten so bad that he walked the streets of New York City and slept on benches because he didn’t want to go home. He jokingly said,
“I can tell you, there’s a bench on 14th Street, just west of Union Square, where I have actually slept at night. I was the best dressed homeless man you have ever seen in your life.”

Despite his struggles at the television station, Holmes said he eventually found comfort while working with his former colleague Amy Robach. He shared,
“She is seeing me deteriorate, she is seeing me not get help, she is seeing me the way nobody else was, and it became an issue where I would leave home to go to the studio, but what it really felt like is I was leaving home and going home –– which was Amy Robach.”

Holmes went on,
“This is not dramatic –– I credit her for literally helping save my life.”
Apparently, the whole ordeal led to them becoming “best friends,” which then went a step further with the pair making things official. Speaking to Holmes, Robach said,
“I knew you were struggling, and sometimes you just need a friend.”
You may recall, romance rumors sparked between Holmes, 46, and Robach, 51, in November 2022. The former co-anchors were ultimately fired from GMA3 in January 2023 after their relationship made headlines. While they’ve already initiated divorce proceedings from their previous marriages, the two have garnered controversial reactions toward their relationship. However, despite the naysayers, they are reportedly still going strong.
