Mama June Shannon Reveals She Lost 30 Pounds In 2 Months w/ Weight Loss Drugs

Update (June 13, 2024): Weight loss drugs seem to be working for Mama June Shannon. The reality star shared that she’s lost 30 pounds in the two months that she’s been taking a medication called tirzepatide.

She said during an interview yesterday (Wednesday, June 12),

“I was against it because I had a gastric sleeve. But now, I’m in week nine and you can ask the girls — I am so super strict.”

She noted that she goes to the gym “three to four times a week,” adding,

I probably lost 30 pounds in like eight and a half weeks.”

Still, her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird isn’t convinced about the success story. She said,

“I just feel like every other time mom has lost weight so quickly, she’s gained it back, plus more each time. You know? She didn’t eat right, she didn’t go to the gym. She just was like, ‘f*ck it, I’ll get another surgery.’”

Original Story (April 17, 2024): Mama June Shannon is the latest celebrity to turn to weight loss drugs.

The famed reality star revealed in an Instagram post on Tuesday (April 16) that she’s started taking semaglutide, a generic brand of Ozempic and Wegovy. Taking her followers on the journey with her, she began,

“As y’all know, back in May of 2015, I had a gastric sleeve surgery. I used to weigh 550 pounds. So on my own, I went from 550 pounds to 311, the day that I had my surgery. And in six weeks, I went from 311 all the way down to 195.”

After having surgery in other areas like her tummy, breasts, chin, back, and arms, she was able to reach and maintain a weight of 130 to 150 pounds. However, after her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell died of cancer at age 29 in December, Mama June Shannon said the weight began to come back.

“With the stress of everything going on, eating out, not eating right, just all kinds of stuff, I had packed on about 120, 130 pounds. I tried to cut back on my eating, nothing was actually helping.”

She vowed to give fans updates on her journey and showed her husband,  Justin Shroud, giving her her first injection.

She captioned the announcement,

“Come along with me as I go through this journey I know a lot of y’all are on similar journeys so let’s do it together. Tell me what your experiences are pros and cons and everything. I will be updating every week how things are going as I know I’m not the only person that has struggled since having a bariatric surgery But Dr. Anna Charon with @miamiderm u can do on a telehealth from your home or in person #weightloss #mamajune #miami #bariatric”

Mama June joins celebrities like Tracy Morgan, Marlo Hampton, and Whoopi Goldberg who have been vocal about using weight loss drugs.

Last month, Opray Winfrey hosted a special to spread awareness and education after she admitted to using weight loss drugs.

She said in part,

“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
