Ex-Colts Player Daniel Muir & Wife In Custody After Missing Son Is Found At Religious Compound
Ex NFL’er Daniel Muir and his wife Kristen Muir are in police custody following their teenage son’s disappearance.
Police are reportedly investigating the retired football player and his spouse for allegedly abusing their child and refusing to cooperate with authorities after the boy’s grandmother reported him missing.
Police confirmed that they found 14-year-old Bryson Muir on a property owned by a religious group his parents belong to earlier today (Wednesday, July 2nd). An investigation into the boy’s whereabouts began following concerns from his grandmother who told police she hadn’t seen him since June 16th and feared for his life. Indiana State Police detained Daniel Muir, Kristen Muir, and several other individuals in connection to Bryson’s disappearance at a compound owned by the Servant Leader’s Foundation, a nonprofit religious group located in Cass County Indiana.
Authorities state that they contacted Daniel and Kristen Muir after Bryson’s grandmother Cheryl Wright reported him missing, alleging that the last time she saw Bryson he had a black eye that she believed his father gave to him. She also surmised that he was being “brainwashed” and coerced to live on the religious compound with his abusive father, stating in an interview:
“His face was battered. When I got him he had a black eye and busted lip…His whole face was swollen. I can only imagine how many times he had been hit in the face for it to be like that.”
She added:
“Bryson is so conditioned or brainwashed to their way of living that he wanted to go back…As I tried to get my daughter to leave he ran out of the house and left with them.”
After making contact with the former Colts lineman, police said they arranged for Daniel, Kristen, and Bryson to meet with them through their lawyer this past Friday (June 28th). However, Daniel reportedly backed out at the last minute, leading them to issue arrest and search warrants.
Police raided the compound in Logansport after the family failed to show up for a mandatory court appearance yesterday (Tuesday, July 2nd). Authorities reported that the raid was “peaceful,” noting that they immediately came into contact with the Muirs and found Bryson who appeared to be “safe and well.” The parents reportedly remain in police custody, however, with Daniel facing preliminary charges of domestic battery (Class A misdemeanor) and obstruction of justice (Level 6 felony), while Kristen is facing a preliminary charge of obstruction of justice (Level 6 felony).
Bryson has been temporarily placed in the care of the Cass County Department of Child Services.
