Lil Yachty Reveals He Purposely Leaked A Song w/ Drake After Influencer Mr. Hotspot Wouldn’t Clear The Sample

Rapper Lil Yachty’s recent admission is garnering some backlash online.

Social media users have been sharing their disapproving thoughts about the 26-year-old since he revealed he intentionally leaked a song against another artist’s wishes.

Lil Yachty, real name Miles Parks McCollum, spoke about the matter during a recent podcast interview. The musician explained how he and Drake recorded a song titled “Super Soak” that sampled the single “Goodness Gracious” by social media influencer Mr. Hotspot, which he released around two years ago.

Though Mr. Hotspot’s song was a viral success, Yachty said that he and Drake never got the clear to officially drop their single. Instead of jumping through legal hoops, the “One Night” rapper revealed he opted to send the record to YouTuber Kai Cenat, who later played a snippet of it during a livestream.

Speaking about the situation, Yachty stated:

“We couldn’t get the sample cleared so I just let Kai [Cenat] play it.”

Continuing, the rapper confirmed that an official version of the song won’t ever come out but he’s still happy because a full leaked version is “everywhere.” When asked how the mixup with Mr. Hotspot clearing the sample came about in the first place, Yachty added:

“This wasn’t an artist…this was an Instagram, social media influencer…he went down like a Christian path…I don’t think we even got into money he was like ‘No’. It was crazy, everyone was like ‘are you serious?'”

Reacting to the remarks, many social media users condemned Drake and Yachty for the action. Some criticized the apparent lack of respect for religion, while others commented on how wrong it is to go around someone who explicitly stated they didn’t want their art to be used in a certain way, no matter if it’s an artist or an influencer.
