Former NFL Player Gosder Cherilus Blames Sleeping Medication For Allegedly Urinating On Fellow Passenger During Flight
In a recent turn of events, former NFL player Gosder Cherilus found himself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
The 40-year-old, who was arrested after allegedly urinating on a fellow passenger during a Delta flight to Dublin, Ireland, took to social media to address the incident.
Blaming his behavior on “sleeping medication,” Gosder Cherilus wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“I’d like to address the media reports about me that surfaced today regarding a situation that occurred onboard a flight to Ireland this past weekend.”
He continued,
“The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and it did not take off until after 12:30 AM. In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character, and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew.”
The flight, which was rerouted back to Boston Logan Airport, saw Gosder Cherilus being arrested upon landing. According to reports, he was taken into custody for disturbing the flight crew and engaging in disorderly conduct.
A spokesperson for Delta addressed the situation, stating,
“Delta flight 154 from Boston to Dublin on August 17 returned to Boston Logan due to an unruly customer and was met by law enforcement. Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”
After the incident, affected passengers were booked onto a new flight to Dublin, which departed the following evening. Cherilus, a former first-round NFL draft pick who played for the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers during his nine-season career, is scheduled to be arraigned in East Boston District Court.
