South Carolina Basketball Star Ashlyn Watkins Released On $30,000 Bond After Being Arrested On Assault, Battery & Kidnapping Charges
University of South Carolina women’s basketball star Ashlyn Watkins was released on a $30,000 bond after she was arrested on charges of assault, battery and kidnapping over the weekend.
The South Carolina forward was arrested in Columbia, South Carolina following a warrant issued by the University of South Carolina Police Department. According to the warrant, Ashlyn Watkins, 20, is accused of assaulting an unnamed victim by “forcefully grabbing her face, pulling her arms and pushing.”
In addition, the warrant alleges that the college athlete picked up the victim against her will and
“grabbed the victim’s head and forced her to walk down the hall, thus controlling her movement while preventing her from leaving.”
Furthermore, the warrant claims that the victim managed to escape the situation and pulled a fire alarm, which led to police and fire officials arriving on the scene. The victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Following her arrest, Ashlyn Watkins was released on a $30,000 personal recognizance bond. She was also ordered to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim, which included an order to stay 1,000 feet from the victim’s home, work, school and place of worship. However, Watkins can continue to travel with the team for out-of-state basketball games and practices.
While the University of South Carolina is aware of Watkins’ arrest, they are still gathering information on the matter and have not issued a statement regarding Watkins’ future on the team.
Watkins’ next court appearance is set for October 25.
