Mariah The Scientist Opens Up About Staying w/Young Thug Amid His Ongoing YSL RICO Trial: ‘He’s Been Locked Up Now Longer Than We’ve Been In A Relationship’

Singer/songwriter Mariah The Scientist recently shared rare commentary about her relationship with Young Thug.

The 26-year-old spoke about starting a romance with the rapper just months before he went to prison, and also shared an adorable moment with him after he phone’d her from the slammer.

Mariah ‘The Scientist’ Buckles got candid about her love affair with Young Thug, real name Jeffrey Williams, 33, while sitting for a conversation with Latto and Angel Reese on the WNBA star’s podcast Unapologetically Angel. After the hooper asked her how things have been with the “Best Friend” rapper, who’s currently on trial for federal RICO charges, Mariah responded:

“It’s cute. I love him.”

Angel Reese went on to compare the couple’s situation to a long distance relationship, which Mariah agreed with and further stated that she at least gets to “see him in court”, which the singer says she goes to sometimes just to “breathe his air.” Speculations that Mariah and Young Thug were dating first sparked back in 2021 after the latter was featured on the former’s single “Walked In” and married her in the music video.

Though the two remained coy about their romance at the time, Mariah and Young Thug’s relationship became more apparent especially after his 2022 arrest. If you recall Young Thug, along with a number of his YSL associates including his fellow Atlanta native Gunna, were detained and accused of using Thug’s YSL label to operate an organized gang that allegedly carried out a number of crimes across the metro area for years. The trial is still ongoing, and the rapper remains behind bars until a jury reaches a verdict.

Further in the interview, Mariah spoke about how “hard” it has been having her time with Thug cut short because of the case, joking that she might be holding him “too down” and stating:

“I love my man…if somebody told me that a few months into my relationship my man would get locked up – he’s been locked up now for longer than we was in a relationship before he got locked up.”

Elsewhere during the sit-down, Mariah picked up a call from Thug who she says will just “sit here and listen to my convo” before exchanging “I love yous” with the rapper and getting back to her discussion with Resse and Latto.
