Bronny James Opens Up About Life After His Cardiac Arrest: ‘There Were Lots Of Emotions’
Bronny James is opening up about his health scare after suffering a cardiac arrest last July at just 18 years old.
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Bronny James recalled that he felt completely normal before the incident, stating,
“I had my smoothie and had been doing running drills at the University of Southern California when I blacked out and don’t remember anything else about the moment.”
Reflecting on his emotions during that time, he admitted,
“There were a whole bunch of categories that what had happened could fall under, so yeah. There were a whole lot of emotions…”
After the incident, Bronny James was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and underwent surgery before starting his rehabilitation. He shared,
“I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff. It was a total reset.”
Now, he emphasizes the importance of managing his health, saying,
“I have to stay on top of my heart medications, and — I got my heart pillow.”
The pillow, he explained, helps ease discomfort when coughing.
Despite the challenges, Bronny is optimistic about his return to basketball after being selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the 55th overall pick in June. He is set to make his NBA debut this fall alongside his father, LeBron James, making history as the first father-son duo to play in the league at the same time.
