Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe Faces Backlash For Racist ‘Watermelon’ Joke At Trump Rally, Also Called Puerto Rico An ‘Island Of Garbage’
Tony Hinchcliffe is under fire after making racist jokes at a recent Donald Trump rally held at Madison Square Garden.
While addressing the crowd, he pointed out a Black rallygoer and remarked,
“That’s one of my buddies. He had a Halloween party last night. We had fun. We carved watermelons together; it was awesome.”
This comment sparked outrage, with many condemning his casual racism.
In another controversial moment, he referred to Puerto Rico as “an island of garbage,” saying,
“There’s a lot going on. I don’t know if you guys know this, but there’s literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. I think it’s called Puerto Rico.”
The backlash was swift, with journalist Don Lemon suggesting that Tony Hinchcliffe’s comments could kill Donald Trump’s chances of becoming president. In response to the criticism, Donald Trump‘s senior adviser Danielle Alvarez defended the campaign, stating,
“This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”
