The Obama sisters are determined to make a name for themselves without leaning on their famous last name.

Former President Barack Obama recently spoke with The Pivot podcast about the matter, revealing his daughters Sasha, 23, and Malia, 26, take intentional steps to forgo the Obama monicker so their art and achievements can be perceived based on their talent and skill alone.

Barack recalled Malia going as far as removing her last name and inserting her middle name when submitting films to different film festivals to avoid people judging her work just because she’s an Obama.
