According to PEOPLE, on Sunday, November 3, Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza, 39, played for Juventud Bellavista against Familia Chocca at Coto Coto Stadium in Peru. The match had been halted after 22 minutes due to severe weather conditions.

As de la Cruz Meza and his teammates were leaving the field, lightning struck him.

A video shared on social media shows players walking off the pitch when several of them suddenly collapsed. Many struggled to get back on their feet.
