Reports that Drake Allegedly Threatened Legal Action Against ‘Degrassi’ Over His Character Being In A Wheelchair Resurface Following His Petitions Against UMG & Spotify
Drake’s alleged history of using the law to handle personal disputes is being called out amid his recent legal actions against UMG and Spotify.
Back in 2021, a writer for the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi, which Drake starred on for 7 seasons, recalled the rapper allegedly threatening legal action against the show in 2006 to prevent his character, Jimmy Brooks, from remaining in a wheelchair.
During the interview, the writer, James Hurst, recounted:
“There was a letter from a law firm in Toronto, and it was from Aubrey. It was an odd letter that said, ‘Aubrey Graham will not return to Degrassi season six as Jimmy Brooks unless his injury is healed, and he’s out of the wheelchair.’ I said, ‘Get him down here.”
And Continued:
“He came in and was like, ‘What letter? I don’t know about that.’ And I said, ‘All right, I understand. But how do you feel about the wheelchair?'”

Hurst furthered that Drake took issue with his character being paralyzed because all his “friends in the rap game say I’m soft because I’m in a wheelchair.”
However, Hurst added that Drake was ultimately apologetic over the entire ordeal and agreed to continue filming once he was able to convey the importance of a paraplegic character.
The report is now recirculating thanks to Drake’s pre-action filings against his music label, Universal Music Group, and Spotify for allegedly using unfair practices to promote Kendrick Lamar’s diss record, “Not Like Us.”
