Frances Government Collapses After Prime Minister Forced Out

The world is in shambles!

France’s government collapsed Wednesday after Prime Minister Michel Barnier was ousted in a no-confidence vote, ending a tumultuous tenure. Barnier, appointed by President Macron in September, faced opposition from both left and right lawmakers over his proposals for tax hikes and spending cuts. His removal follows a failed snap election in July that left Macron with a divided parliament.

With 331 of 577 lawmakers voting against him, Barnier’s resignation marks the shortest prime ministerial term in modern French history. His departure leaves France with a caretaker government amid growing concerns over a budget crisis.

Despite the political upheaval, a new parliamentary election isn’t expected until summer 2025, as France’s constitution prohibits a snap vote before then.
