Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum Trolls Trump’s Gulf Name Change Proposal

Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s first woman president, is using humor to respond to Donald Trump’s bold suggestions.

During a recent press briefing, Sheinbaum responded sarcastically to Trump’s proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America. Standing before a global map, she suggested that North America should instead be called “América Mexicana,” referencing an 1814 document. “That sounds nice, no?” she said with a sarcastic tone, pointing out that the Gulf has held its name since 1607.
