Cook County, Illinois Deputy K*lled By Stray B*llet While Vacationing In Turks & Caicos
Deputy Shamone Duncan, a Cook County, Illinois sheriff’s deputy, tragically lost her life while vacationing in Turks and Caicos this past weekend (Jan. 18).
Duncan, 50, was celebrating her sister’s birthday at Aziza Restaurant & Lounge in Providenciales when a shootout erupted following an argument downstairs.
Her son, Shamon Payton, recalled,
“People started yelling, telling people to get down. ‘Everybody got down,’ and my mom got up. And then, she got hit… Bystanders came and tried to help.”

Duncan was struck by a stray bullet and later died from her injuries. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed her death, stating,
“Our hearts are broken for the family of Deputy Shamone Duncan. She was a 20-year veteran of the Cook County Department of Corrections.”
Duncan’s family remembered her as a devoted mother and grandmother, with Payton sharing,
“You only get one mother, one father. I lost the one.”
The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police are investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made.
Our prayers are with the loved ones of Shamone Duncan during this challenging time.
