Influencer & Actress Tabitha Brown Explains Why Target Protests Could Hurt Black Businesses More Amid DEI Rollbacks: So Many Of Us Will Be Affected
Actress and influencer Tabitha Brown recently took to Instagram to address Target’s decision to scale back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives—a move that has stirred concern and frustration.
In a heartfelt video, Brown shared how the changes impact her own brand, Donna’s Recipe hair care, as well as other Black-owned and minority-owned businesses striving to stay on retail shelves. She highlighted the challenges these businesses face, from limited retail opportunities to the financial burden of unsold inventory.

Brown urged her followers to be strategic rather than reactive, warning that boycotts without a clear plan could ultimately hurt the very brands the community aims to uplift. Instead, she encouraged intentional support for Black-owned products within major retailers to help preserve their presence and momentum.
“Don’t let them erase us,” she emphasized, calling for unity and resilience during these challenging times.
Brown appeared to react to Target’s announcement about the end of its DEI initiatives with a cryptic Instagram post shortly after the retailer made the decision public earlier this week.
Fans quickly urged her to sever her partnership with the company, but in her video, Brown explained that pulling out of the partnership is more complicated than many may think.
The actress stated that she’s committed to her relationship with Target for now, while also selling her products through Walmart, Amazon, and other platforms. Her closing words were a rallying cry:
“Let’s not give them what they want. Don’t let them take us off shelves.”
