Michelle Obama Responds To Divorce Rumors After Not Accompanying Barack Obama To Several Public Events: I Was Making A Choice For Myself
Michelle Obama is addressing the assumptions sparked by her recent absence from public events with Barack Obama.
On the April 9 episode of Work in Progress with Sophia Bush, Michelle explained her decision to prioritize herself, noting that she had reviewed her schedule for the year and decided not to do or attend things simply because others thought she should.

Reflecting on the reactions to her choices, Michelle shared,
“They couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume my husband and I are divorcing.”
She added,
“This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? That’s what society does to us… if it doesn’t fit into the stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”
Despite the negativity, Michelle’s decision to put her own needs first seems to be paying off.
