Lil Wayne Says He Never Knew Ye & Jay-Z Released A Joint Album, ‘Watch The Throne’, In 2011
During his recent Rolling Stone interview, Lil Wayne surprised fans by admitting he’d never heard of “Watch the Throne,” the 2011 collab album by Jay-Z and Kanye West, now known as Ye.
When writer Andre Gee mentioned it, Lil Wayne asked, “What’s that?” followed by, “They did an album?”
The room then played songs like “Otis” to jog his memory, though he appeared “bewildered,” the piece noted. However, he recognized the hit single, “Ni**as in Paris” as well as “No Church in the Wild.”
Despite Lil Wayne’s confusion, “Watch the Throne” wasn’t exactly an underground release. “Otis” earned a Grammy win for Best Rap Performance and was also nominated for Best Rap Song. At the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in 2013, “Ni**as in Paris” swept both Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, while “No Church in the Wild” took home Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
Y’all believe Wayne was trolling or truly surprised by this album?
