Too Short Reveals He Bought Lil Jon Out Of His Contract In Exchange For Beats, Securing Timeless Hits Like ‘Shake That Monkey’ & ‘Blow The Whistle’
Too Short recently reflected on his bond with Lil Jon and a pivotal deal that paid off big. On “All the Smoke,” he recalled meeting Jon in Atlanta during the So So Def era.
“We had already did a couple songs that blew the f**k up because of him,” Short said, referencing early hits like “Couldn’t Be A Better Playa.”
Their chemistry led to Too Short helping Lil Jon escape a troubled label situation.
“I could have signed Lil Jon to my label,” he admitted, “but… I was just like…you’re free to go. All I ask for in return was beats.” That trade gave Short lifetime bangers.
“The n***a was just sliding me hits for life… he slid me ‘Shake That Monkey’… the very next year he gave me ‘Blow the Whistle’ and I’m like, you know, ‘Thank you, sir.’” Their friendship spawned more classics like “Burn Rubber,” “B***h,” and “Bia’ Bia’.”
