Warner Bros. To Bring Back ‘HBO Max’ After Mixed Reception To ‘Max’ Rebrand
HBO is headed back to Max, literally!
Warner Bros. Discovery announced today (May 14) that its streaming platform Max will revert to its original name, HBO Max, later this summer. Reportedly, audience members laughed and applauded as the updated dark grey logo was unveiled during a presentation to advertisers in New York.
The decision marks a walk-back of the 2023 rebrand that removed “HBO” from the platform’s name, a move many consumers found confusing. While the company stopped short of calling the previous change a mistake, reps described the pivot as:
“A testament to WBD’s willingness to keep boldly iterating its strategy and approach, leaning heavily on consumer data and insights.”

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, reportedly stated about the latest rebrand:
“With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition.”
