‘The Upshaws’ Star Jermelle Simon Engaged To Influencer Obio Jones After Proposal At Home: ‘A Complete Surprise’

Jermelle Simon, star of “The Upshaws,” and content creator Obio Jones are officially engaged after a heartwarming proposal on April 25.

“Not to sound too cheesy, but…wow, I actually get to marry my best friend,” Simon told PEOPLE.

Their romance began with a friendly Instagram DM.

“He DM’d to congratulate/compliment me on my performance on the show. Real smooth like, but friendly for sure,” recalls Simon.

Jones reflects,

“I think it was the friendship first that really rooted the romance for us.”

The couple’s bond deepened over time, culminating in a surprise proposal in their new home, involving Simon’s children.

“He thought it was just in regards to the house, but I got on one knee and boom!” says Jones.

Simon, caught off guard, shares,

“[It was] a complete surprise…no one said a thing.”

As for what’s next: “We’re going to give ourselves another month…then jump into planning mode,” Jones reveals.
