Tyler Perry & Terri J. Vaughn Sued Over Netflix Series ‘She The People’ For Allegedly Copying Nonprofit’s Name & Concept
Tyler Perry is facing a lawsuit over his upcoming Netflix series “She The People,” which a nonprofit founder claims infringes on her organization’s brand identity and mission.
Aimee Allison, president and founder of the nonprofit She the People, filed the suit just ahead of the show’s release.
The complaint names Netflix, Perry, his company Tyler Vision, LLC, and actress Terri Vaughn as defendants. Allison alleges she previously worked with Vaughn to develop a docuseries based on the She the People concept, which focuses on uplifting women of color in politics.
According to the lawsuit, the new scripted series borrows heavily from themes, narratives, and branding central to her nonprofit’s work, potentially misleading audiences and damaging the organization’s reputation.
Allison is seeking unspecified damages and has requested the court to intervene in the show’s release. Representatives for Perry, Vaughn, and Netflix have not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
