NBA Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Inks Record-Breaking $285 Million Deal + Becomes Highest-Paid Player In The League’s History
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has just signed the largest contract in NBA history — a four-year, $285 million supermax extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Averaging $71.25 million annually, the deal surpasses the Miami Marlins’ entire team payroll of $67.4 million.
While Boston’s Jayson Tatum recently signed a bigger total deal ($314 million over five years), SGA now holds the highest annual salary in league history. Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid is next closest, making slightly over $64 million per year.
It’s no surprise the Thunder secured Gilgeous-Alexander after his dominant Finals run, which ended in Oklahoma City’s first NBA title. The Kentucky alum averaged 30.3 points per game in the postseason, following a regular season average of 32.7.
For his efforts, he earned both league MVP and Finals MVP honors — joining the likes of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Larry Bird as one of just a few to achieve both in a single season. His Hall of Fame path is well underway.
What are your thoughts on this huge accomplishment?
