Paramount Agrees To Pay $16 Million Settlement In Trump Lawsuit Over Kamala Harris’ 60 Minutes’ Interview
Paramount is cutting a $16 million check after Donald Trump sued over how #KamalaHarris’ 2020 60 Minutes interview was edited.
President Trump accused CBS News of manipulating Harris’ answers to make her look better and mislead voters by showing her giving two different responses to the same question. CBS said both edits were part of a longer answer and were simply cut for time, but according to Trump’s team, this caused him “mental anguish.”
Paramount and CBS denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle. The $16 million will reportedly go toward Trump’s future presidential library, not to Trump himself. No apology was issued.
As part of the agreement, 60 Minutes will release transcripts of future presidential candidate interviews, “subject to redactions as required for legal and national security concerns.”
The move comes as Paramount seeks approval from Trump’s team for a proposed merger with Skydance Media. CBS News President Wendy McMahon and 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens, who opposed the settlement, have both resigned in recent weeks.
