Eddie Murphy Defends ‘Norbit’ As A Cult Classic + Says ‘Sh*t Wasn’t That Bad’ Despite Harsh Critic Reviews

Eddie Murphy is well aware that not all of his films are fan favorites, but he stands by 2007’s “Norbit.”

In a recent interview with Complex, Murphy admitted “Pluto Nash” and “Holy Man” were among his worst films. When host Speedy Morman suggested some people felt the same about “Norbit,” Murphy replied, “I love Norbit. You know, Norbit came out right after I got the Oscar nomination. There were articles like, ‘How can he get an Oscar?! He did this.’ No, that’s two different movies.”

Murphy, who co-wrote the film with his late brother Charlie, played Norbit, Rasputia, and Mr. Wong. The comedy grossed $159 million worldwide, earned a Best Makeup Oscar nomination, and developed a cult following despite sweeping Razzie Awards.

“I was like, ‘C’mon man. Sh*t ain’t that bad,’” Murphy said. “They was just hatin’ on a n***a.”
