Octavia Spencer Secretly Paid ‘Power’ Star Gianni Paolo’s $5,000 Monthly Publicist Fee When He Was In Debt: ‘She Didn’t Ask For The Money Back’
Octavia Spencer once stepped in to help her “Ma” co-star Gianni Paolo when he was $20,000 in debt.
During an appearance on “Harry Jowsey’s Boyfriend Material” podcast, Paolo revealed that after appearing in “Power” and filming “Ma,” he had “$20,000 worth of credit card debt” and couldn’t afford a $5,000-a-month publicist.
“I only made $6,000 on the movie… I’m just not going to get a publicist,” he said.
Before the “Ma” press tour, Spencer invited the cast to dinner. When Paolo explained his situation, she took action.
“She had called her publicist, paid for it completely, and then set me up with her whole team,” he recalled. “She didn’t ask for the money back. Never.”
Paolo said he repaid her after booking “Power Book II: Ghost.”
Octavia to the rescue! What are your thoughts on this touching gesture?
