Autopsy Confirms Suic*de in De@th of Delta State Student Demartravion Reed, Found H@nging From Tree

Another update has been released in regarding Demartravion “Trey” Reed.

The 21-year-old Black student at Delta State University in Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts on campus around 7 a.m. Monday. The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s autopsy determined his cause of death was hanging and classified the manner of death as suicide.

Investigators say there is no evidence of foul play so far. The Bolivar County Coroner reported no signs of assault—no cuts, bruises, fractures or other injuries. Toxicology results are pending and may take two to four weeks. Meanwhile, officials have given all materials to the FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office for further review.

The discovery has stirred strong emotional reactions on and off campus, especially given Mississippi’s history. Delta State’s president acknowledged the painful imagery the incident evokes and the concern among students and community members. The university also received threats in the aftermath, prompting increased law enforcement presence. Trey Reed’s family has retained civil-rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who is calling for transparency and access to video and all investigation materials.
