TikTok Confirms U.S. Sale Will Close Next Month – Here Are The American Investors Who Will Takeover
TikTok’s long-anticipated U.S. ownership shakeup is officially moving forward, with a deal set to close early next year.
The sale of TikTok’s U.S. operations is scheduled to be finalized on January 22, 2026, according to a memo sent to employees. A group of American investors will take control, led by Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX, Abu Dhabi’s state investment firm.
Together, the three companies will act as “managing investors” and own 45 percent of the business. An additional 5 percent will be owned by other new investors, while 30.1 percent will remain with affiliates of existing ByteDance investors and 19.9 percent will stay with ByteDance itself.
TikTok CEO Shou Chew confirmed the news in a message to staff, writing, “I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued dedication and tireless work.” He added, “With these agreements in place, our focus must stay where it’s always been—firmly on delivering for our users, creators, businesses and the global TikTok community.”
Chew also confirmed the deal includes “retraining the content recommendation algorithm on U.S. user data,” with Oracle overseeing data protection and holding “ultimate decision-making authority” over U.S. content policies.
