Chris Brown’s $500 Million Lawsuit Over Domestic & S#xual V!olence Doc Thrown OUT by Judge
Chris Brown’s explosive defamation lawsuit tied to the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence has officially been dismissed, delivering a major legal win to the filmmakers behind the project.
The singer had filed a staggering $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment, accusing them of spreading falsehoods in the 2024 Investigation Discovery documentary, which examines allegations of domestic and sexual violence connected to Brown. He previously blasted the film as being “full of lies and deception.”
At the center of the case was the documentary’s coverage of a woman who accused Brown of raping her on a yacht owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2020 — an allegation Brown has denied. Brown’s legal team argued the woman’s account was riddled with inconsistencies and claimed key text messages were withheld after she reported the incident to Miami police.
But in a firm ruling, Judge Colin Leis said the documentary fairly presented the information and did not omit the issues raised by Brown. “The court has personally viewed the entire documentary,” the judge wrote, noting that the project included “most of the inconsistencies plaintiff notes,” including the disputed text messages, and amounted to a “‘fair and true’ report” of statements and judicial records.
The judge also dismissed Brown’s objection to commentary in the film, including an interview in which writer Scaachi Koul said the singer had a “predisposition for punching women in the face,” pointing out that Brown has admitted to assaulting Rihanna. With that, the court shut down Brown’s attempt to revive the case, effectively ending the high-stakes legal battle.
