Teyana Taylor Says ‘At Least For The Next 18 Years’ She’s Focused On Being The ‘Best Co-Parent’ w/ Ex Iman Shumpert

#TeyanaTaylor is opening up about how she and ex?husband Iman Shumpert are handling co?parenting since their divorce.

In a recent Vanity Fair profile, the One Battle After Another star emphasized that even after ending their marriage, they’ve prioritized teamwork for the sake of their two daughters, Junie, 10, and Rue Rose, 5. Teyana described divorce as emotionally difficult, saying, “Divorce, to me, is you’re grieving the death of a living being.”

Despite the separation, Taylor stressed the importance of staying united as parents. She told the outlet, “I think once children are involved, you understand the importance of really still having to show up for each other… at least for the next 18 years, and being the best co?parents that we can be.” Teyana also noted she doesn’t want people to be afraid of marriage, adding that it’s a “beautiful thing,” even as she and Iman navigate this next chapter together.

Teyana and Iman finalized their divorce in June 2024, following their separation in 2023. While the split initially appeared amicable, tensions soon escalated. Teyana accused Iman of shutting off utilities at their marital home in Georgia. In August 2025, she was held in contempt of court and ordered to pay #ImanShumpert $70,000 for reportedly violating their divorce agreement’s confidentiality clause.
