‘Hit The Quan’ Rapper iHeartMemphis Arrested After Overnight SWAT Standoff

A tense overnight standoff in Plantation ended with the arrest of rapper iHeartMemphis after a heavy police response at a residential home.

Authorities confirmed a man was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a house in the 8600 block of Gatehouse Road, prompting a SWAT response. The individual was identified by his godbrother as iHeartMemphis, whose real name is Richard Colbert, 33.

A Local 10 News crew observed a Tesla outside the home overturned after officers forced entry through the garage. Colbert’s godbrother told the outlet he believed the rapper may have been experiencing a mental episode and said Colbert was livestreaming on Instagram during the incident.

“So stop scaring me with these bums. Ya’ll got jets flying through my house, fake spiders,” Colbert said on the livestream.

Police were later heard communicating with Colbert over a loudspeaker.

“I am thinking about my daughter,” Colbert told officers. “Alright, let me tell you something, white man. OK? Let me tell you something, white man. I am thinking about my daughter… keep me protected. I don’t got no guns, just my eye. I can prove, I don’t got nothing. If they kill me, bro, they was trying to stop me from making their movie because it was going to be the best movie ya’ll ever seen.”

Police said Colbert was evaluated at a hospital as a precaution before being booked into Broward County Jail on an active warrant for written or electronic threats and resisting arrest without v*olence. A dog inside the home was safely removed and released to a family member. Colbert is expected to face a bond court judge on Wednesday.
