Michael B. Jordan & Delroy Lindo On Stage When N-Word Was Shouted at BAFTAS – Host Addressed Chaotic Moment

A tense moment took over the room at the BAFTA Film Awards when the n-word was audibly shouted from the audience while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage presenting.

According to reports, the slur — along with additional profanity — came from John Davidson, a Tourette’s syndrome campaigner whose life inspired the film I Swear. The outbursts were described as involuntary vocal tics associated with Tourette’s syndrome.

Host Alan Cumming immediately stepped in to address the disruption. Per coverage of the event, Cumming told the audience, “John has Tourette’s and some of the things you’re hearing are involuntary.” He added, “We’re very proud to have him here tonight,” and thanked attendees for their “understanding,” while acknowledging that “it can be startling.”

Earlier in the evening, Davidson had also interrupted remarks during the ceremony before later leaving on his own accord.

The incident quickly sparked debate online. While some emphasized compassion given the medical explanation, others pointed to the painful history and impact of hearing that particular slur — especially with two prominent Black actors standing at the podium when it was shouted. It remains unclear how the moment will be handled in the official broadcast edit.
