[Update] The Academy Says It’s ‘Extremely Upset’ Over Teyana Taylor Security Incident + Thanks Her For Showing ‘Remarkable Grace’
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is addressing an incident involving Teyana Taylor that occurred at the end of the Academy Awards.
In a statement, the Academy said it was “extremely upset” to learn about Taylor’s experience and emphasized that the treatment of every guest at the ceremony is its responsibility.
“We were extremely upset to learn about the experience endured by Teyana Taylor at the end of the Oscars ceremony last night,” the organization said. “We have worked with Teyana over the last several months during awards season, and she has been nothing short of remarkable, supportive, kind, and all about community.”
The situation reportedly unfolded after the film “One Battle After Another” won Best Picture. Taylor had stepped offstage to assist film executives who were having difficulty getting onto the stage. When she attempted to return, a security guard allegedly stopped her and put his hands on her, prompting a brief confrontation.
The Academy noted the guard was part of its outside security partner, SIS, but said it has made clear that the behavior “is not acceptable.”
The organization also thanked Taylor for showing “remarkable grace” and said it is taking steps to ensure similar incidents do not occur again.
