Track Star Allyson Felix Announces Comeback, Aiming For 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

#AllysonFelix, 40, isn’t done with track just yet!

The most decorated female Olympic track and field athlete revealed to TIME that she’s planning a comeback with her sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which would take place in her home city. Allyson, who has long been involved in the #LA28 movement and previously helped with the city’s Olympic bid, said competing in front of a home crowd is a major motivation. She announced her retirement from track following the #TokyoOlympics in 2021, where she won a relay gold and 400-m bronze.

Speaking on those who may criticize her return, she said, “I totally get the person who sticks around too long and you’re like, ‘What are they doing?’ I know, at 40, I am not at my peak. I have no illusions about that. I’m very clear in what it is and what I want to see. And so I hope it’s seen that way.” Allyson continued, noting that, however things may turn out, she will be in attendance at the upcoming Olympic Games, cheering on the competitors. She added, “I would probably be upset at myself if I just didn’t give it a try.”
