Lil Durk Faces New Racketeering Charge Ahead Of Murder-For-Hire Trial
Lil Durk is facing a new federal charge as prosecutors continue building their case ahead of the rapper’s upcoming murder-for-hire trial.
According to a newly filed indictment, federal prosecutors have added a racketeering charge against the Chicago rapper, born Durk Banks. In simple terms, the charge accuses Durk of leading or directing a criminal enterprise whose members allegedly committed violent crimes. Prosecutors claim his Only The Family (OTF) label operated as more than a music collective and functioned as a group involved in criminal activity. Durk has denied the allegations.
The rapper is scheduled to go to trial in August over claims that he placed a bounty on rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the 2020 killing of his friend and collaborator King Von. Rondo survived a 2022 shooting at a Los Angeles gas station, but Lul Pab, who was with him at the time, was killed. Prosecutors have alleged since 2024 that Durk financed the attack through OTF associates.
In the new indictment, prosecutors claim Durk founded OTF around 2010 and that a subset of members and associates later engaged in violent acts, including murder and attempted murder, at his direction. The filing also references an attempted 2019 murder in Atlanta, a case in which Durk was previously arrested before the charges were dropped. Prosecutors further allege he paid $1 million for the murder of a rival gang member in Chicago in 2022.
Durk’s legal team strongly rejected the new allegations, calling the expanded indictment “lipstick on a pig.” His attorneys accused prosecutors of repackaging old claims and adding unrelated accusations in an effort to strengthen what they described as a weak case. They also maintained that Durk is innocent and criticized the government’s continued attempts to use his music and lyrics as evidence.
The latest filing also references an unreleased music video tied to Durk’s song “Redman.” Prosecutors allege the video depicts a character resembling Quando Rondo being chased and shot while references are made to King Von’s death. The government further claims phone calls, text messages, social media posts and lyrics show members of the alleged enterprise celebrated acts of violence.
The claims remain allegations, and Durk has not been convicted of the charges.
