Jay-Z & Beyoncé Top Billboard’s ‘Power 100 List’
The powerhouse couple of now 12 years, Jay-Z and Beyonce continue to establish their spot as industry royalty yet again by coming in at number 1 on Billboard’s annual ‘Power 100 List’ of 2014. Calculating by partnerships, album sales, innovation, and more data, the accomplished new parents are dominating at their work by leading the list with other industry honchos such as Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge and Red Light Management founder Coran Capshaw and Ryan Seacrest following behind.
In Billboard’s arcticle, the Roc Nation head and Parkwood Entertainment CEO are just an ounce of how the couple have been making noise in the music industry. Longtime friend and founder of new music venture 300, Lyor Cohen (No.47) has said in regards to Jay and Bey:
Artists have always had the power but courage is in short supply. It’s just that the hip-hop generation believes in the possibilities, Jay and Beyoncé don’t listen to the noise—they make the noise.
With Beyonce’s surprise self-titled visual album, Beyonce, being the 8th highest selling album in 2013 in less than a month and Jay’s Magna Carta taking industry partnerships with major Tech businesses such as Samsung to a new level by selling over 1 million copies in 5 days show that their edge- breaking ideas are evidence that they are soon to be Hall of Famers.
Seeing how the couple have collectively made over 20 albums and have had hands in other hobbies like sports managment and fashion design the duo have made their presence known in almost every lane of entertainment. Island Def Jam and Columbia, Jay Z and Beyoncé’s respective labels, worked closely with the two to execute these disruptive deals, but other label heads remain most impressed by the artists’ take-charge approach. Republic Records president/COO Avery Lipman (No. 17) states :
Just watching [the Beyoncé] phenomenon happen was really exciting—and admittedly more enjoyable watching it from the sideline than being in the midst of it.
Billboard congratulated the couple via Twitter for topping the list:
Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun; music producer Dr. Luke; Spotify CEO Daniel Ek; and recording executive Jimmy Iovine also followed on the list.

wow. I definitely think Jay and Bey need to go on tour together. They would gross an exorbitant amount of money and it would be a great experience for the fans. I don’t know if that would actually happen though because maybe they want to keep work and play separate
