[EXCLUSIVE] NFL Star Vince Young Accused of $240K Breach of Contract
theJasmineBRAND.com has exclusively learned, NFL star Vince Young is accused of breaching a settlement agreement to the tune of $240K — all over the rights to his “Invincible” trademark, and now he has been slapped with a federal lawsuit.
Back in 2008, Young sued Rodney Vannerson, Enos Cabell and Tom Roberson claiming they applied for trademarks relating to his nicknames “VY” and “INVINCIBLE” shortly after his Texas Rose Bowl win in 2006. He claimed that only he had the right to obtain trademarks for those and they didn’t ask for his permission. Young claimed the three men spent large sums of money on marketing and branding the VY and Invincible nickname, which
damaged his endorsement deals, specifically one with Reebok. He asked the court to order their trademarks be voided and he be awarded the rights to the nicknames. Young and the men came to a confidential settlement in 2010 and the terms were kept under seal until now.
The three men have now hit Young with a federal lawsuit claiming he breached their settlement agreement. Per the deal, the men were to transfer the trademarks to Young in exchange for $240K which was to be paid within 10 days of their settlement.
According to the docs, the men claim that Young’s lawyer claimed the money was in the account at one point but then it was returned to the NFL star.
The men state they believe the lawyer never returned the money to Young and she actually used it for personal benefit.
Regardless, they are suing both Young and his lawyer for breach of their settlement and demanding the $240K they are owed.
