Taraji P. Henson: I am tired of Hollywood telling me what black people can’t do overseas and what can’t sell overseas.
In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Taraji P. Henson made it crystal clear — she’s ready to take her brand globally. Following the success of her character Cookie Lyon, on the Fox hit show ‘Empire’, all eyes have been on the 44-year-old established actress. She says:
I am tired of Hollywood telling me what black people can’t do overseas and what can’t sell overseas, and black women can’t do this overseas. Well, I am over there and they know who I am; and they knew me before Cookie.
[FYI: “Empire” debuted in January with 9.9 million viewers and ended its first season run with 17.6 million viewers for the finale].
Taraji also has the utmost respect for the awards and accolades associated with the craft, but that is not her focus.
That’s not my driving force. I respect the awards and I am always honored when I am recognized, but that’s not really why I got into the business. Art is very powerful. It can touch and change lives, and that’s what I am about with my talent.
