Black Ink Crew Chicago’s Ryan Henry: I represent myself like a coon on reality TV.
Ryan Henry: I represent myself like a coon on reality TV.
Reality star Ryan Henry is having a change of heart about his behavior not only on reality TV, but also his lack of contributions to his hometown of Chicago. Ryan stars on VH1’s reality show, Black Ink Crew: Chicago. This week, he posted a lengthy message on social media, admitting that he acts like a coon on TV and is disappointed with himself. His comments were triggered by a recent event that took place with Chance the Rapper and the Obama’s. Posting a photo from the event, Ryan writes:
Yesterday… Please don’t confuse what I feel personally with what you feel as a whole. I owe my city more. For that I apologize. My goals to interact with the youth, the homeless, the less fortunate, and the aspiring artists, I owe them/you all more.
He continued,
I started 9mag with a goal of uplifting everyone around me selflessly. Watched it go to shit. I started a show with the intent to grow everyone I was around and stay united forever. That died. Took on a platform of BS to change views of my city to outsiders and do natives here justice, now it’s become coonery based on failure, lies and faults. Which I want no part of further underlying emasculating of myself and other black men LEADERS as weak, abusive, disrespectful, etc, outside of humanly mistakes. Purposed doings with intent. So I apologize. And I will do better. My actions, my foundations, my time and energy donated Where it should be. This pictute let’s me know I’m not doing enough for my ppl to not have even known about it let alone invited to it if I was on my shit. And I’m not. So here I come. Salute!
Does that mean Ryan’s quitting the show?

It’s never about the art of tattoos. Its always drinking and fighting.
I guess he is agreeing with that sentiment. Well that is the first step for recovery.
Well I am elated that he has decided to end all the bafoonery that his show represents!
Glad that he is motivated to do and be better.
Represent yourself and our beloved City more honorably Ryan!
Best of Luck to you.
Hell it’s not like Chicago is a city well represented, with all the killings, and political corruption, who do you think you are kidding…. SMDH
I’m not trying to kid you or anyone dear.
I live here! lol!
I know all about the shootings, over taxing and politics. But it happens in other cities as well, not just Chicago.
Even more reason why shinning a better light on Chicago with his show would be ideal..
Lady please, I live here also on the south side and both of my parents are judges in Cook County and the bs that rolls through their courtroom and the meetings behind close doors don’t even comes close to this mans show.. Little do you even know…
Why I feel like you want to argue with me? lol. Its Friday I dont wanna argue today and it’s my payday.
Your parents are judges..umm great!
I am 35 lived on the southside all my life. I am not negating the violence and everything that is WRONG with Chicago. I am simply commending the Brother for trying to show himself and the show that airs in Chicago in a better light.
What’s the issue here?
Nothing Camden, I’m 54 yrs old, born and raised on the Southside. I’ve been MANY places and I at home. I glad that brother looked at Chance and the Obamas and realized he failed himself and wants to make it better. That’s called being a grown up.
I am glad too Sir..:))
I’m female
My apologies.
Yes I am glad too! :))
I live in Chicago too and while we have the most reported crime, it is not the most violent city. There are as many people coming as there are leaving and that has always been the case. People talk about the violence but it hasn’t put a dent in the tourism either. Camden was right there is violence everywhere but Chicago is famous for being infamous and its always been that way. I lived in other cities and I came back home. If Ryan is willing to do the work and help make our home better, God Bless, count me in.
Angry bird alert ?
I don’t watch the show but judging from the previews it does look like a bunch of coonery and buffoonery. This is classic in getting caught up in the limelight and forgetting where you came from. Glad he is recognizing that and hope to see him using that reality show as a platform for community work and mentoring in Chicago.
Sounds like he wasn’t an invitee to that event of Chicago’s elite. And he now realizes why that particular door/invite wasn’t extended to him. Well when you know better, you do better.
It wasn’t hard to get an invite, I had one. I think that he sees Chance who is using his platform for good and Ryan is blowing his. I remember Ryan saying that before his sister was killed, she agreed to help him get the tattoo business if he got his life together and stopped clowning. It seems that he has broken that promise and maybe he finally realizes that. If the people in his surrounding don’t share his commitment, time to find a new crew.
Lame ass. He cheats and tries to blame it on Kat. Punk ass dude.
