Jay-Z Explains Why He Cheated On Beyonce (Sorta)
Jay-Z continues to gives us a glimpse into his personal life. In a new interview, the 47-year-old rapper opens up about how his marriage to mega star Beyonce survived scandal.
Admitting to past infidelity, he shares what his state of mind was leading up to him being unfaithful. He explains,
You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves. The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself. So, you know, most people don’t want to do that. You don’t want to look inside yourself. And so you walk away.
In 2013, rumored stories that he was unfaithful to mega star wife Beyonce began circulating rampantly.
In 2014, the speculation was fueled after footage surfaced of Beyonce’s sister, Solange, attacking him in an elevator after the Met Gala.
Beyoncé hinted at their marital problems in her 2016 visual album “Lemonade.” JAY-Z alluded to cheating on the title track of his latest album, “4:44”, released in June.
Jay-Z says that therapy helped him tremendously.
I grew so much from the experience. But I think the most important thing I got is that everything is connected. Every emotion is connected and it comes from somewhere. And just being aware of it. Being aware of it in everyday life puts you at such a … you’re at such an advantage.
He admits that because of his challenging upbringing, he built up walls. He admits he shut down emotionally.
You go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode what happen? You shut down all emotions. So even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect [because of the way you feel about yourself]. In my case, like it’s, it’s deep. And then all the things happen from there: infidelity …
They both used their music to work through their marital issues. JAY-Z acknowledged problems in their relationship informed both “Lemonade” and “4:44.”
We were using our art almost like a therapy session.
He admitted that playing the deeply personal tracks was,
very, very uncomfortable. We were sitting in the eye of that hurricane. The best place is right in the middle of the pain. And that’s where we were sitting. And it was uncomfortable. And we had a lot of conversations. You know. [I was] really proud of the music she made, and she was really proud of the art I released. And, you know, at the end of the day we really have a healthy respect for one another’s craft. I think she’s amazing.
