Ashley Graham Doesn’t Like Term “Plus Sized”
Ashley Graham isn’t a fan of folk using the term “plus sized.” Graham, who has made history in the modeling industry as the first curvy woman in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, feels that the term is divisive.
I think the word ‘plus-sized’ is so divisive to women. I think that when you use the word ‘plus-size,’ you’re putting all these women into a category.
She says that false stereotypes are often associated with the label.
‘You don’t eat well. You don’t work out. You couldn’t care less about your body. You’re insecure. You have no confidence.’ And that is none of this.
Graham further explains her point by using her second appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2016 — when she was one of three cover stars — as proof.
Sports Illustrated decided to have curvy women not only in their magazine but on the cover of their magazine. Now that means size diversity is here, and it’s real, and it’s not a trend.
