Ving Rhames Held At Gunpoint In His Own Home By Cops: I Opened The Door & They Put A Gun In My Face
Ving Rhames recently recounted a jaw-dropping experience with police. The “Mission: Impossible Fallout” actor says that he was recently held at gunpoint in his own Santa Monica, California home. The 59-year-old actor says that police suspected him of burglarizing one of his neighbor’s home. Rhames says that a neighbor had called police, reporting that a “large black man” had broken in.
The incident happened earlier this year in the afternoon. He recalls the incident, saying that he was watching TV when he heard a knock at his front door.
I get up, I open the door and there’s a red dot pointed at my face from a 9-millimeter [gun], and they say, ‘Put up your hands.’ Literally.
The initial police officer was joined by two other officers, a police dog and the captain of police. The captain eventually recognized Rhames not as an actor, but because their son’s respective high school basketball teams had previously played against each other. When Rhames asked why were they, they said about a potential burglary.
He said to me, ‘A woman called 911 [and] said a large black man was breaking into the house. And so we came’.
Rhames says he went across the street to confront the neighbor with a police officer and the police chief by his side. He said the woman denied it.
You can check this with the Santa Monica Police Department. They apologized and what have you. This is the God’s honest truth.
Looking back at the incident, Rhames says he’s still concerned about his teen son’s safety.
What if it was my son and he had a video game remote or something, and you thought it was a gun?. Just like, I don’t know, Trayvon had a bag of Skittles.
