Normani Kordei Doesn’t Want to Be “The Next Beyoncé”
Singers Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Normani Kordei have quite a few things in common. Both are fierce singers and dancers from Houston, TX that were originally members of a girl group. But Normani is making it plain that she wants to forge her own path.
During the recent Tidal X Brooklyn benefit concert, many social media users compared Normani’s performance style to that of Beyoncé. She took to Twitter to insist that she wants to cultivate her own greatness.
Normani tweeted:
“I am NORMANI. I was born NORMANI. I will die NORMANI. PERIOD *in my city girls voice*”
She then retweeted Twitter user @Wasted_Jauregui’s message, which read:
“She’s basically saying RESPECT HER NAME she’s not the next anyone she’s the NEXT NORMANI FUCKING KORDEI”
Normani posed with her idol at this year’s Roc Nation Grammy Brunch. She shared the photo on Instagram with a fitting caption:
“Black Girl Magic”
