Jermaine Dupri Doesn’t Want Celebrities Boycotting The Super Bowl – “Protests Don’t Work To Me”
Jermaine Dupri believes that celebrities are taking the wrong approach when it comes to the NFL. Last year, Jay-Z turned down the Super Bowl halftime show performance and this year Rihanna reportedly did the same.
Both artists declined to perform in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick after his mistreatment by the NFL. However, JD believes that protesting isn’t the answer and that artists could use the platform to get their message across. He says,
Use your platform, say what you’ve gotta say. Let people be heard because the more you talk about it, the more things change, more than boycotts. Boycotts and marches don’t seem like they work to me, I’m sorry. I think they should send a message while they’re onstage, take advantage of your platform.
JD went on to say,
Taking advantage of your platform is to not do the Super Bowl as well. But it seems really interesting to me because we are in an industry where you see so many people do things like boycotting something one year and the next year they’re buddy buddy with the thing they boycotted.
The more people speak on something, the more they talk about it, then the more people feel like it’s something they have to address. I feel like people ignore boycotts.
In closing, Jermaine Dupri wants everyone to enjoy their time in Atlanta when the Super Bowl touches down in the city this February.
The Super Bowl is coming to Atlanta and me being the unofficial mayor of this city and caring about the way people view my city forever, I feel like it’s my job to make sure that the Welcome to Atlanta experience is the best you ever had for those who still come and support Super Bowl Weekend.
