Yandy Smith Reveals She Was Cheated Out of Love & Hip Hop Producer Credit

“Love and Hip Hop New York” star/celebrity manager Yandy Smith is a certified boss. But even the best boss has taken a loss at some point in their career. In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Yandy detailed how she’s been cheated out of production credits for “Love and Hip Hop.” She and Charlamagne tha God had an awkward exchange on the subject. It went as follows:

Yandy Smith:

I’m looking like, ‘I don’t see my name in the credits anywhere.’ I was like ‘Okay. Oversight. Mistake. OK, whatever.’ So I still got paid-

Charlamagne tha God:

That credit is important, though.

Yandy:

Yeah, the credit is important to me. But I brushed it off and I moved on to the next season…

Charlamagne subtly coerced Yandy into revealing more about the nature of her relationship with the creator and executive producer, Mona Scott Young. It turns out Yandy may be partly responsible for creating the franchise.

Charlamagne tha God:

You and Mona don’t watch the edits together no more?

Yandy Smith:

Hmm…

Charlamagne:

Was that part of you and Mona falling out?

Yandy:

Me and Mona haven’t fallen out

Charlamagne:

‘Cause you made a face

Yandy:

No, ‘cause you asked me do me and Mona sit and watch the edits. I made that face ‘cause I wish I could! I’m like, ‘We started this together.’ I’m like, ‘Come on, I need your help with this show. Come on, let’s do this. This is a situation where we walked in the door together.’

Charlamagne:

So what happened?

Yandy:

Um, first season I was on the producing side, and I guess I traded in my producer hat for a talent hat. And it was a bigger check. And I was stupid. I was young, and I didn’t have the proper guidance to sit me down and say, ‘Don’t go for the bigger check. Go for ownership.’

Charlamagne:

Mona! Mona [was] supposed to school you to that!”

Yandy also opened up about becoming a foster mother to her former mentee, Infinity Gilyard.
