Janelle Monae Cast In Gloria Steinem Biopic
The Hollywood gigs for Janelle Monae don’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. The 33-year-old singer turned actress has reportedly been cast in The Glorias: A Life on the Road, the Gloria Steinem biopic. Directed by Julie Taymor, Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander will play the feminist and social-political activist at various stages of her life.
The Glorias will follow Steinem’s journey to become a crusader for equal rights and her groundbreaking work as a journalist and campaigner.
In 2016, Monáe made her theatrical film debut, starring in Hidden Figures where she portrayed NASA mathematician and aerospace engineer Mary Jackson, and Moonlight. The latter won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Her upcoming projects include STX’s animated release UglyDolls, Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake, and the Harriet Tubman pic from Focus Features.
