Former ABC President Channing Dungey Named Netflix Vice President of Original Content, Will Work w/ Obama’s & Shonda Rhimes

Channing Dungey, the woman who is known for cancelling ABC’s “Roseanne,” has just signed on to join the Netflix team. The former ABC Entertainment President is expected to start her role as Vice President of Original Content in February, and will work with Cindy Holland, the other Vice President of Original Content, to strategize and oversee Netflix’s original series and the company’s deals – which they carry with Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Barris, Jenji Kohan, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Ryan Murphy to name a few.

About the deal Dungey said,

I’m drawn to the forward-thinking, risk-taking and creative culture at Netflix, and the deeply talented people there, especially Ted [Sarandos] and Cindy [Holland], with whom I’m excited to partner on setting the strategy for original content. Given that ABC, the place I’ve called home for nearly 15 years, represents the gold standard of traditional broadcast, it feels like the perfect next step for me to join Netflix, the unparalleled leader in streaming. I’m invigorated by the challenges ahead and the opportunity to forge new relationships, and excited for the very welcome reunion with incredible talent.

Dungey was a key-player during her stint at ABC. She helped oversee the development of shows like “Scandal,” “How To Good Away With Murder,” “The Good Doctor,” and “Once Upon A Time;” she was also appointed as the first black President at a major broadcast network.  Dungey said goodbye to the company in November 2018 after 15 years.
